Authorities mentioned they were contacted by a man who discovered a car in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.

A senior political figure commented the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be addressed quickly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
